Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Corsica

The beautiful Mediterranean island of Corsica, nestled west of the Italian peninsula and south-east of the mainland of France, is a jewel of rugged mountains, green forest, sandy beaches and stylish towns. It is a region of France, though its proximity to Italy lends it a distinctive Italian feel. Around half of the island is set within a park – Corsica Natural Park – which features hiking trails that wind among forests, lakes, mountains and gorges. With a hire car in Corsica, you can easily explore the region to the full in your own time.

Corsica is also justly well known for its beautiful beaches, from the powder white sands of Calvi in the north-west, peaceful Arinella and remote Loto to stunning Palombaggia and popular Pinarello in the south. Whether you are looking for isolated beauty, superb snorkelling, fun water sports or simply a great beach to chill out on, Corsica has it all – you can discover miles and miles of picturesque coastline by renting a vehicle here.

A hire car in Corsica can be picked up from Ajaccio Airport. Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica and a town located on the west coast of the island, about halfway down. It is connected to the north and south of the island by major routes.

Attractions in Corsica

Whether you are looking for scenic beauty, beautiful beaches, great shopping, stylish bars and restaurants, or art and culture, Corsica has an amazing variety of attractions for all the family. At the heart of it all is the magical capital of Ajaccio, a charming town set between the azure sea and a backdrop of green mountains. Visitors can explore the old port, bustling markets and grand architecture, or while away lazy afternoons on the white sandy beaches. For the more actively inclined, there are all kinds of water sports available, from diving and snorkelling to jet skiing, sailing and fishing. You could also go kayaking through the clear, rippling waters of the Prunelli gorges.

In the west of Corsica, the Gulf of Porto is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a stunning coastline of red granite cliffs and turquoise blue sea. The landscape is the result of volcanic activity that has created jagged cliffs and intriguing lava flow formations. Also in the region are the granite sculptures known as the calanches of Piana, the pretty village of Piana itself, and Porto aquarium.

In the north-west of the island, the region of Balagne is known as the garden of Corsica because of its lush fertile hills. At picturesque Calvi, you can discover the Genoese citadel, with its impressive views out to sea, or wander the beautiful beach that stretches for miles. Across in the northeast, Bastia is Corsica’s ancient capital with a wealth of historic charms and enigmas – you can stroll the steep streets, visit the bustling market and discover magnificent churches. Further out, the wild seascape of the Cap Corse is home to tiny hamlets and sublime sandy beaches, while the vineyards of Patrimonio and the charming village of Saint Florent are also nearby, with a hired car making the connections simple.

South Corsica is one of the most popular areas of the island, with good cause. Here are the lovely beaches of Saint Cyprien and Cala Rossa, the white cliffs of Bonifacio, the tropical waters of the Lavezzi Isles and an array of prehistoric sites. In South Corsica, visitors can do as much or as little as they please, from lazing on a beach or trying a spot of wine tasting, to golfing, snorkelling, zip-wiring or kite surfing.

Places to Visit Outside Corsica

It is possible to visit Sardinia from Corsica by taking a ferry from Propriano, while a ferry from Bastia travels to Piombino on the Italian mainland. Both routes take several hours.
